ABOUT
About this spot
Mount Bandai is an active volcano rising 1,816 m north of Lake Inawashiro. Affectionately known as "Aizu Fuji," it is one of Japan's 100 Famous Mountains. It has two faces: the rugged explosion crater formed by the eruption of 1888, and its graceful ridgeline. There are several hiking routes, from the beginner-friendly Happodai Course to the more challenging Inawashiro Trailhead Course, so you can choose according to your fitness level. From the summit, you can enjoy grand panoramas of Lake Inawashiro below, the fourth largest lake in Japan, and the Urabandai area dotted with lakes and ponds in a variety of colors. Its overwhelming beauty never fails to captivate visitors. You can experience nature's rich expressions throughout the year: fresh greenery in spring, alpine flowers in summer, brilliant autumn foliage, and skiing in winter. After your hike, we recommend refreshing yourself at Inawashiro Onsen, a renowned hot spring area nearby. Whether with family and friends or on a quiet solo hike, this is a classic spot where you can feel the grandeur of Fukushima's nature firsthand.
