ABOUT

About this spot

The "Bamboo Grove Path" is a symbol of Arashiyama, Kyoto, a roughly 400-meter walking path running from Nonomiya Shrine to Okochi Sanso Villa. Tens of thousands of bamboo stalks stretch up as if covering the sky, with sunlight gently filtering through them, a truly breathtaking sight. The sound of bamboo leaves rubbing together in the wind has been selected as one of the Ministry of the Environment's "100 Soundscapes of Japan to Preserve," so you can feel healed not only visually but also through your ears. As you walk in the silence, you will forget the bustle of the city and feel the tranquil air beloved by the nobles of the Heian period. It is ideal for weekend strolls, couples' dates, solo trips, and photo-focused trips with friends. The recommended time is early morning, when there are relatively few tourists. You can enjoy the luxurious experience of having the bamboo grove all to yourself in the fresh air. With the World Heritage Tenryu-ji Temple and Nonomiya Shrine, known for matchmaking, nearby, it is a famous spot we encourage you to visit as the main route of an Arashiyama tour.
