ABOUT

About Toyama

Toyama's appeal is concentrated in its dynamic topography, with a height difference of 4,000 meters, from the 3,000-meter-class Tateyama Mountains to Toyama Bay, which reaches depths of 1,000 meters. In history and culture, the World Cultural Heritage "Gassho-zukuri Villages of Gokayama" are essential. Their appearance, which conveys Japan's original landscape to this day, soothes the hearts of visitors. Toyama has also long been known as the "medicine town," and the traditional culture of traveling medicine sellers and crafts such as the refined "Toyama glass" also thrive. Among scenic spots, you can enjoy overwhelming views on the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, famous for the Snow Wall, and the Kurobe Gorge Railway, which runs through Japan's deepest V-shaped gorge. And of course, the great pleasure of travel, food, should not be missed. In Toyama Bay, called a "natural fish tank," you can enjoy exceptionally fresh seafood all year round: firefly squid in spring, rock oysters in summer, red snow crab in autumn, and Himi winter yellowtail in winter. White shrimp and Toyama Bay sushi in particular are luxurious delicacies you will want to try at least once. Spend a stirring time in Toyama, where majestic mountains and the bounty of a rich sea coexist.
