ABOUT

About Tottori

The symbol of Tottori Prefecture is the "Tottori Sand Dunes," formed over a long span of years. The wind ripples drawn by the wind and the spectacular views of the Sea of Japan overwhelm visitors. "Mt. Daisen," the highest peak in the Chugoku region, has been revered since ancient times as a mountain where gods dwell, and shows beautiful faces in every season. In food, gourmet delights nurtured by abundant nature abound, starting with "matsuba crab," the king of winter flavors, as well as Nijisseiki pears and rare "Tottori wagyu." Fresh seafood is also indispensable, including red snow crab and tuna from Sakaiminato, which leads Japan in landings. In history and culture, highlights include the white-walled storehouses of Kurayoshi, which preserve the atmosphere of the Edo period, and the ruins of Tottori Castle. The prefecture is also popular as a holy land of world-famous manga works, with Mizuki Shigeru Road and the Gosho Aoyama Manga Factory. The dynamic coastline of the "San'in Kaigan Geopark," a UNESCO Global Geopark, is also not to be missed. At night, a starry sky so beautiful that the prefecture is called "Hoshitori-ken" (the Star Prefecture) spreads overhead, promising a soothing trip.
