ABOUT

About this spot

The "Ushiku Daibutsu," the symbol of Ushiku City in Ibaraki Prefecture, is one of the world's largest standing bronze statues at 120 meters tall. It is about three times the size of the Statue of Liberty in New York and is registered with Guinness World Records. The interior of the Buddha is a mystical space of five floors, and from the observation windows at the chest, 85 meters above the ground, you can enjoy views that on clear days reach Tokyo Skytree and even Mt. Fuji. Each floor offers a different Buddhist worldview, such as the dreamy "World of Light" and the "World of Gratitude," where you can try sutra copying. In the garden of about 10,000 square meters at its feet, seasonal flowers such as cherry blossoms, moss phlox, and autumn cosmos adorn the Buddha. The grounds also have an area where you can meet small animals such as rabbits, making it a calm spot for families and solo visitors alike. Please experience the overwhelming scale and tranquil, healing atmosphere for yourself.
