ABOUT

About this spot

Kasama Inari Shrine in Kasama City, Ibaraki Prefecture, has long been loved as one of Japan's Three Great Inari Shrines, alongside Fushimi Inari Taisha in Kyoto and Yutoku Inari Shrine in Saga. It is said to have been founded in the 2nd year of Hakuchi (651) in the Asuka period, and the enshrined deity Ukanomitama no Kami is worshipped as the guardian of all industries. A highlight is the Honden main hall, a nationally designated Important Cultural Property rebuilt in the late Edo period. Its shrine building, adorned with intricate carvings, shows the finest architectural techniques of its time. In early May, the great wisteria on the grounds reaches its peak, and the double wisteria, over 400 years old, blooming like a purple curtain is a stunning sight. A stroll through the temple town after your visit is a must. The famous Kasama inari sushi comes in a variety of types, including ones with soba and walnuts, and eating your way along the street is recommended. It is a power spot perfect for a weekend outing, where you can enjoy history, culture, and food all at once.
