ABOUT

About this spot

Aqua World Ibaraki Prefectural Oarai Aquarium, on the coast of Oarai Town in Ibaraki Prefecture, is one of Japan's leading marine leisure facilities, enjoyable for adults and children alike. Its most distinctive feature is the display of more than 50 species of sharks, the most of any aquarium in Japan. Watching them glide through the enormous tank is thrilling. There are also soothing exhibits, including sunfish kept in one of Japan's largest dedicated tanks, and the "Iwashi Hikari to Doyomeki" show in which about 10,000 sardines swirl to light and music. The "Dolphin and Sea Lion Ocean Live" show, set against the Pacific Ocean, is held in an all-weather pool so you can enjoy a spectacular performance in any season. Inside, a food court with ocean views lets you rest while enjoying fresh seafood. It is perfect for family trips and dates, and also for those who want to enjoy the mysteries of the sea at their own pace. It also makes a great destination for a weekend drive from central Tokyo.
