ABOUT
About Fukui
Fukui Prefecture is a place where a timeless history, abundant nature, and supreme cuisine come together in harmony. Historically, "Eiheiji," the head temple of the Soto school of Zen, is famous. This training ground surrounded by deep mountains offers visitors stillness and peace of mind. At the "Ichijodani Asakura Clan Ruins," which recreate a castle town of the Warring States period, you can feel the splendor of that era firsthand. The beauty of natural forms is not to be missed either. "Tojinbo," sheer cliffs carved by rough waves, is known as a rare scenic wonder even by world standards, and its power is overwhelming. Fukui is also famous as the "Dinosaur Kingdom," and at the "Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum," one of the world's three great dinosaur museums, intellectual curiosity is stirred in adults and children alike. As for food, a highlight of any journey, a variety of specialties await, starting with "Echizen crab," the king of winter flavors, as well as the translucent sweetness of "Echizen oroshi soba" and "sauce katsu-don" with its proud original sauce. Fresh seafood caught in Wakasa Bay is also superb. In traditional crafts, the skills of artisans live on, with Echizen washi paper, which has a history of about 1,500 years, and Echizen uchihamono forged blades, with a history of about 700 years. Look, eat, and experience. Fukui is an attractive destination where you will make new discoveries on every visit.
