About this spot
The Yokohama Museum of Art is a municipal museum in the Minatomirai 21 district of Yokohama. It faces Grand Mall Park, and its long building was designed by the office of Kenzo Tange. It opened in March 1989 as a pavilion of the Yokohama Exposition and officially opened on November 3 of the same year. The collection has about 10,000 works, including about 4,200 photographs, because Yokohama is regarded as a birthplace of photography in Japan. Highlights include works by Cezanne, Magritte, Picasso, Dali and Kandinsky as well as Japanese artists such as Kishida Ryusei, Yokoyama Taikan and Isamu Noguchi. The museum also has a Children's Atelier for ages up to 12, an art information center and a tearoom. After a long renovation closure that began in 2021, it fully reopened on February 8, 2025. It is open 10:00-18:00 and closed on Thursdays. Admission varies by exhibition, so check the official site before visiting.
