ABOUT
About this spot
Nestled in the lush forest of Sengokuhara, Hakone, the Pola Museum of Art is known for its transparent architecture in harmony with nature. Most of the building is buried underground, beautifully designed so as not to spoil the surrounding natural landscape. Inside is a vast collection of about 10,000 items, ranging from Impressionist masters such as Monet and Renoir to Japanese Western-style paintings, contemporary art and even cosmetic tools. Beyond the galleries, the "Forest Promenade" that extends outside the building is another highlight. Strolling the approximately 1 km path, you can enjoy seasonal flowers and sculptures scattered through the forest, refreshing both mind and body. At the in-house restaurant "Allée," we also recommend a special course meal matched to the theme of the special exhibition while looking out at the beautiful greenery. Whether you want to immerse yourself in art quietly alone or spend an elegant time with someone special, this is a leading cultural spot in Hakone.
