ABOUT

About Oita

Oita Prefecture is the "onsen prefecture," with the largest number of hot spring sources and the largest volume of flow in Japan. The "Hells of Beppu" at Beppu Onsen and the atmospheric Yufuin Onsen never fail to attract many visitors from Japan and abroad. Historically, tranquil spots where ancient faith lives on are scattered around, such as the Buddhist culture of "Rokugo Manzan" spreading across the Kunisaki Peninsula and the National Treasure "Usuki Stone Buddhas." The richness of nature also stands out. Driving on the "Yamanami Highway" with a view of the Kuju mountains and the views from the "Kokonoe 'Yume' Otsurihashi," one of Japan's largest suspension bridges, are spectacular. The food is varied too. "Seki-aji and Seki-saba," premium fish raised in the Bungo Channel, and tender "Oita wagyu" are superb. You can also enjoy a wide range from everyday to luxurious tastes, including local dishes such as "tori-ten," "Nakatsu karaage" and "dango-jiru." Oita, with abundant nature, history, and blissful hot spring hopping and fine food, is a place that gives new discoveries and deep relaxation every time you visit.
