ABOUT
About Fukuoka
Fukuoka Prefecture has long prospered as a window for exchange with the continent and today is full of vitality as the "Gateway to Asia." Among historic highlights, Dazaifu Tenmangu, which enshrines Sugawara no Michizane, is famous and draws many worshippers all year round. History-rich spots are also scattered around, such as Kokura Castle in Kitakyushu and the canal town of Yanagawa, where you can enjoy river cruises on donko-bune boats. The natural appeal is varied too. In Itoshima, the beautiful coastline and stylish cafes are popular, and from Mount Sarakura in Kitakyushu you can take in a spectacular view chosen as one of Japan's "New Three Great Night Views." And the greatest highlight of sightseeing in Fukuoka is "food." There is no end to the list: Hakata ramen, motsunabe, mizutaki and fresh seafood dishes. The "yatai" in the Tenjin and Nakasu areas in particular are one of the cultures that symbolize Fukuoka. Dishes tasted amid rising steam and lively conversation will become wonderful travel memories. Fukuoka, where urban convenience, rich atmosphere and superb food blend, is a place you will want to visit again and again.
