ABOUT
About Kyoto
Kyoto Prefecture flourished as Japan's capital for about a thousand years after the move to Heian-kyo in 794, and it is a land where history and culture remain strongly in evidence. In Kyoto City and Uji City there are numerous famous sites inscribed as World Heritage under "Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto," including Kinkakuji, Ginkakuji, and Kiyomizudera, which overwhelm visitors. Nature is also remarkably rich, and places such as Togetsukyo Bridge in Arashiyama and the bamboo grove of Sagano show beautiful faces in every season, from spring cherry blossoms to autumn foliage. In the north of the prefecture lies "Amanohashidate," counted among Japan's Three Scenic Views, where you can enjoy the spectacle of a sandbar lined with pine trees stretching across the blue sea. In food culture, in addition to traditional Kyoto cuisine and shojin ryori, there are authentic sweets made with Uji matcha and local sake from Fushimi, one of Japan's premier sake-brewing districts, offering abundant flavors. Traditional events such as the Gion Festival and Gozan no Okuribi have been passed down through generations, and the willingness to embrace new sensibilities while protecting old traditions is Kyoto's endless charm. Where history, nature, and fine food are in harmony, Kyoto will leave a deep impression on you each time you visit.
